Making a Pinch Pot Vase

  1. Divide a piece of clay about the size of your fist into two equal portions.

  2. Shape those portions into balls and create a pinch pot from each. Try to make them exactly alike. The sides should be even and about a quarter of an inch thick.

  3. Score and slip the open edge of your pinch pots and put them together.

  4. When they are firmly attached, cut a hole into the top of your sphere.
  1. Make a thin coil and attach to the scored and slipped edges. Smooth it with your fingers, supporting the inside of your vase with a finger, until you can not tell where they are joined together.

  2. Make a short coil of clay. Use this coil to attach with your fingers to the edge of the hole for your neck. Shape the neck as you like with the pressure of your fingers.

  3. Make another coil of clay and attach to the bottom for a foot. The coils at the neck or the foot can be altered and lengthened or shaped, etc.
